About fifty firefighters mobilized to extinguish a fire at Poissy prison

About fifty firefighters and 11 emergency vehicles. On Christmas night, from Friday to Saturday, a fire broke out around 10 p.m. in a cell in the central prison of Poissy (Yvelines). The disaster « generated a significant release of smoke in the prison compound », according to The Parisian.

According to our colleagues, the 51-year-old inmate who occupied the cell from which the incident allegedly started was poisoned « by carbon monoxide fumes » and suffered burns to his hands and neck. He was transported to the Poissy hospital center. Its vital prognosis is not engaged.

Prison staff managed to bring the fire under control before help arrived. The latter, however, continued to work until 2 am « to ensure the ventilation of this prison establishment », specifies Le Parisien. The detainee is being prosecuted for « destruction of public property by fire ».
