The Ariane 5 rocket has taken off

An Ariane 5 rocket took off at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday from the Guyanese space center to send the James Webb space telescope, an instrument that should revolutionize the observation of the Universe, into space, an AFP journalist noted on the spot.

The powered flight should last 27 minutes, before the separation of the observatory which will be injected into its final orbit, about 1.5 million km from Earth. The James Webb, manufactured by NASA with the collaboration of European and Canadian space agencies, should make it possible to observe the first galaxies that appeared after the Big Bang but also exoplanets or the formation of stars.
