No, he’s not a footballer. But a national icon which once again shone during the Tokyo Olympics …
As every year, the Journal du Dimanche, with the help of Ifop, draws up the list of favorite personalities of the French. For 2021, the leading tandem is unchanged, dedicating singer Jean-Jacques Goldman for men and actress Sophie Marceau for women. But what about athletes?
For the third consecutive year, the favorite athlete of the French is none other than the judoka Teddy Riner, individual bronze medalist at the Tokyo Games this summer and team gold medalist with the French collective. Eighth in the general classification, as in 2020, the person is ahead of Zinedine Zidane, who falls back five places (17e), and Kylian Mbappé, 19e like last year.
Not a single acclaimed sportswoman
After disappearing from the radar, Antoine Griezmann reappears in the men’s Top 25, when Didier Deschamps leaves him. Note that no sports personality appears in the Top 25 women. Since 2000, only three athletes have had the honors of the top of the standings, and on several occasions: Zinedine Zidane, David Douillet and Yannick Noah.
