The Blues not spared by the Covid

Tested positive for coronavirus before the start of the training camp, five players from the France team, selected for Euro 2022, will have to wait before joining the group.

Start of preparation for Euro 2022 complicated for Olympic champions Tokyo. While Nedim Remili has already withdrawn from the competition, which will be held in Hungary and Slovakia (January 13-30), five new players from the French handball team have now tested positive for the coronavirus. Indeed, after Nikola Karabatic, Benoît Kounkoud and Yanis Lenne last Thursday, the French Handball Federation announced this Sunday evening that five other elements are also affected after tests carried out on December 26. Thus, Rémi Desbonnet, Hugo Descat, Aymeric Minne, Dylan Nahi and Élohim Prandi will first have to isolate themselves before being able to join Guillaume Gille’s group., while Vincent Gérard is absent following a family mourning. Gathered in Créteil at the Maison du handball, the France group will therefore have to adapt to this new wave which has hit France hard lately.

Gille will call on new players

« All the players and staff members called for this camp from December 26 to 30 were subject to a very strict protocol. A first test carried out on Friday 24 then a second on Sunday 26 December, upon their arrival at the Maison du handball, made it possible to detect several positive cases for Covid-19 while all the actors were placed in isolation (in particular the meals taken in a single room). (…) These players will be able, as soon as their next RT-PCR test is negative, to carry out the recovery protocol with the medical staff, their club and / or the France team. Thirteen players have therefore started the preparation course for the EHF EURO 2022. In the coming hours, Guillaume Gille should logically complete his group with players who will also be subject to a rigorous test protocol before joining the collective. », Indicates the press release of the FFH.
