An American is accused of shooting his parents on Christmas morning in Long Island.
Tragic Christmas morning on Long Island. A man is accused of shooting his parents on December 25, at their home in quiet Hewlett Harbor, reports CBS2. Police intervened that day after receiving a call about unrest in the neighborhood at around 10 a.m. When they got there, they found Rocco Tomassetti, 65, and Vincenza Tomassetti, 64, with gunshot wounds. They were both still conscious when they were taken to hospital, where they underwent surgery.
Rocco Tomassetti was shot in the head and his wife in the back. The two told police they were targeted by their son, who fled in a Cadillac Escalade. The authorities, however, had no difficulty in tracing it back to this bodybuilder. The latter was arrested around 2 p.m. as New York State Police followed a car on Route 17 from New Jersey. After his arrest, the man, Dino Tomassetti, was taken into police custody. He remains for the moment in detention in Bergen County, indicted as a fugitive by the courts, pending his extradition to Nassau County. His charges in New York will depend on his parents’ state of health, explains the “New York Post”.
The « Daily Voice » reports that the suspect works as a personal sports trainer. Her father owns the Brooklyn-based Empire Transit Mix Inc. Dino’s mother, on the other hand, owns the Starz dance studio on Broadway. A woman quoted by the American daily declared to be the best friend of the suspect and denied any violence coming from him. “He is absolutely not violent. They `re my best friend. I don’t want to talk about it, ”she commented. The parents’ neighbors were shocked that such an incident could happen in their quiet and well-off neighborhood. “They are lovely people. I don’t understand everything, ”one resident told The New York Post. “They are very nice people. You can’t ask for better neighbors, ”he added.
