The government will « to adjust » isolation rules for people who test positive for Covid-19 and their « Contact cases », the duration of which will be specified « By the end of the week », Jean Castex said Monday at a press conference.
« The characteristics of Omicron », a variant of the virus in the process of becoming the majority, « Will lead us, after consulting the health authorities, to adjust our doctrine to the duration of isolation », explained the Prime Minister, adding that the executive « Fix (a) these new rules by the end of the week ». « We have approached the High Council of Public Health which will issue recommendations this weekend, probably on December 31, in order to alleviate the conditions of isolation of contact cases », said Olivier Véran at his side.
Avoid « paralysis »
The stated objective is to limit « The impact on society of a multiplication of contaminations and contact cases, which can lead to a paralysis of public and private services », added the Minister of Health.
The isolation period is currently 10 days for patients, counting from a positive test or the appearance of symptoms and 7 days for « contact cases », with some exceptions: people with a vaccination schedule complete are only affected if the Omicron variant is detected; contacts living under the same roof as patients must self-isolate for 17 days.
The government has also ruled out dreaded curfews for Christmas Eve on December 31 and postponing the start of the school year scheduled for January 3.
