News culture Uncharted: Can the movie with Tom Holland convince fans of the game?
In 2022, Uncharted will be among the blockbusters of cinema. After the critical disappointments of Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City and Mortal Kombat, what chance do Nathan Drake have to offer?
Soon on our cinema screens, Nathan (Tom Holland), Sully (Mark Wahlberg) and Chloe (Sophia Ali) will be looking for an ancient treasure stashed in the debris of old galleons and will have to precede Antonio Banderas in the skin of the ‘antagonist. The new Uncharted trailer released at the end of last week was far from hitting the target, especially in view of Sully’s mustache, considered slightly disconcerting. The images broadcast show a whole slew of sequences (too many for some), between pirate ships and stunts of all kinds. And if a part of the spectators were rather enthusiastic in front of such a dose of action, others on the other hand found the whole enough « ridicule« .
I love watching movie trailers that just spoil the whole entire movie… Like u get an idea of every major event in the movie just from the trailer… nice one Uncharted

That new Uncharted trailer is as essentially the same trailer with one new scene so thats a bummer
That being said the final action setpiece is SO ridiculous it actually feels like Uncharted so I’m down

That being said, the end-action centerpiece is SO ridiculous that it actually looks like Uncharted, so I’m hot.
Let us also recall the skepticism of some concerning the choice of Tom Holland to play Drake., who would have gladly favored a certain Nathan Fillion whose features unquestionably recall the treasure hunter. Note that the latter was also the star of a Fan Film live-action de 2018 rather well received by the public.
A faithful adaptation?
Hopes for the feature film to emerge in theaters were slim before the first images were revealed. Recall that the project already highlighted in 2010 had suffered a handful of postponements and replacements. While he was initially at the head of the construction site, David O. Russell (Happiness Therapy, Joy) had left the ship for “creative disputes”. The post of director was then passed between several hands: Seth Gordon (How to kill your boss ?, Baywatch Alert in Malibu), Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel), Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) or Travis Knight (Bumblebee). It is finally Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Welcome to Zombieland) who is responsible for the adaptation.
Although it takes up some cult environments and scenes from the video game saga, the film Uncharted is doomed to present an untold story centered on the beginnings of Nathan Drake and his meeting with Sully. We therefore expect a front door accessible to the general public, not without a hint of fan service. The director also told Empire magazine that the idea is not to recreate the games but to take back their essence.
Part of the problem is that they (other movies, editor’s note) are trying to recreate the games. Because the players had such a visceral experience, I don’t think you can compete with that. I wanted to make sure Uncharted worked like a (unreleased) movie (…) When you play games, you feel like you’re inside a movie, so you have the opportunity to bringing it to life was a real dream come true. (…) We tried to take inspiration from games when we could, but we also wanted to have original decor elements that are not part of the games at all. I’ve never seen anything like our final third act and I think it’s going to blow people away.
